District Missionary Eleanor Luter

District 17

District Missionary Eleanor Luter has been a faithful member of the Church of God in Christ, Inc. for over 70 years. As the eldest daughter of COGIC pioneers, the late Supt. Sam Quin and the late District Missionary Elnora Quin, she was always taught to love God and to care for His people.

Missionary Luter worked in the secular arena as a community librarian for many years instilling the love for reading and literature to a myriad of children. She, then, worked in the McComb Public School District as a behavior interventionist for 17 years. Upon seeing the need to perpetuate ministry, Missionary Luter retired from the school system to work in full-time ministry with her husband, Supt. O.L. Jefferson.

After the passing of Superintendent Jefferson, Missionary Luter married Bishop Marcus Luter and has continued to do the work of the Lord and love his people. She is known in her local church and throughout the state as the “best cook of all times!” No one can make a chicken pie or seafood dressing like Missionary Luter.

In addition to being a pastor’s and superintendent’s wife for over 17 years, Missionary Luter has served in many capacities within her local, district, and jurisdictional church. She currently serves in her local church as the head church mother and financial secretary under the pastorate of Elder Samuel Alexander.

As a mother of four, grandmother of 19, great-grandmother of 12, and spiritual mother to many others, Missionary Luter is known and loved for her playful nature and praying spirit. Missionary Eleanor Luter now spends her days volunteering at the Jubilee Performing Arts Center as the Chief Financial Officer where the children affectionately call her “grandma.”
